Did you know??
There are existing forces in water! Amazing healing potential with hydrotherapies.
Buoyancy:
A body immersed in water experiences an upward force equal to the weight of the displaced water. Therefore, the body seems weight less in water than in air. Buoyancy is affected by postural alignment, surface area immersed, ratio of muscle and bone compared to fat and lung vital capacity. This decreases stress on joints and muscles for therapeutic exercise. Creates resistance which is increased with speed of movement. Buoyancy allows body and/ or lims to be supported in water.
Hydrostatic Pressure:
The perpendicular pressure of the water against the body. Hydrostatic pressure increases with the surface area immersed and with increasing depth and viscosity of water.
Cohesion:
Because water molecules are cohesive, the viscosity of water is greater than that of air and therefore the resistance to motion is greater in water than in air.
Viscosity:
Viscosity is the internal friction within liquid or the property of liquids that resists relative motion within it.

Resistance in water is created by all the above factors!!
